What we do

CrueltyCheck is a free, independent database that helps conscious consumers find out whether cosmetic, household, and personal care brands test on animals. Type a brand name into the search, and you get an immediate answer.

We currently index 1,345 brands across a wide range of categories — from everyday drugstore labels to premium and luxury lines — covering both brands that are certified cruelty-free and those that are confirmed to test on animals or sell in markets that require animal testing by law.

How our data is compiled

Each brand's status is determined by cross-referencing publicly available information, including:

• Official brand animal testing policies published on brand and parent company websites
• Recognised cruelty-free certification programmes
• Regulatory requirements in markets where the brand sells products
• Parent company ownership (brands owned by companies that test on animals are marked accordingly)

A brand is marked Cruelty Free only when we can confirm it does not commission, conduct, or permit animal testing of its products or ingredients — and does not sell in markets where animal testing is required by law. If there is any ambiguity, the brand is not marked cruelty free.

A brand is marked Tests on Animals when it sells in markets that mandate animal testing, when its parent company tests on animals, or when its published policy confirms animal testing is conducted.

Keeping data current

Brand policies change — companies are acquired, certification lapses, and regulations evolve. We review and update our database on a regular basis. The current data was last verified on 15 May 2026.

Who we are

CrueltyCheck is an independent project built for consumers who want a fast, no-nonsense way to check brands before they buy. We are not affiliated with any brand, certification body, or advocacy organisation, and we don't accept payment to influence how brands are listed.

This database is provided for informational purposes only. While we aim for accuracy, we cannot guarantee that every listing reflects the most current brand policy. Always verify directly with a brand if certainty is required before making a purchasing decision.
